Welcome to this week’s Aitken Robertson Win of the Week. In this series, we highlight recent great results from our lawyers and paralegals including wins at trial and withdrawals of charges. .
This week we are highlighting a successful resolution by our lawyer Will Hume. Our client reached out to our firm for help following a dispute with his spouse that resulted in him being charged with domestic assault. The dispute was observed by an off-duty police officer who called their local police department to report it. The police officer alleged that our client had hit his wife in the face during the dispute. However, both our client and his wife argue that although the argument had been physical, our client did not hit his wife in the face.
Working in the legal field, our client feared that having this charge would lead to him losing his job and trusted our firm to resolve this unfortunate situation quickly. Mr. Hume worked diligently to make sure that this was possible. Mr. Hume’s goal was to have our client enter into a peace bond. The Crown stated that our client should participate in appropriate programming to do so.
In the end, Mr. Hume was successful in convincing the Crown. Our client participated in the programming, entered a peace bond and his charges were withdrawn. This was a fantastic outcome for our client. Able to dispel the false accusation made by the off-duty police officer, our client was able to put this unfortunate situation behind him.
