I would like to thank the lawyers at Aitken Robertson especially Philip Stiles and Lavina Inbar for helping me thru this most difficult time. Everyone i was in contact with were very polite and professional. Being a very high stress time of my life i could not have been happier to hear a "Not Guilty " verdict. I will always recommend Aitken Robertson to anyone i hear of needing a good lawyer. Thank you all very much. - M.F.

Great experience with this firm. Phil is the best and obviously knows what he's doing. Ended up getting my charge dropped. Would highly recommend. - M.K.

A family member was charged with impaired driving in May 2018.  We found Aitken Robinson to be very knowledgeable.  They advised us that they would take care of everything and were in contact with us every step of the way.  The Crown wanted a stiffer penalty for a first time offence but Aitken Robinson managed to get it reduced.  I would highly recommend this firm.  They are awesome! - LS

"I am a 58 year old senior public servant. 8 years ago I made a terrible decision, choosing to drive my car after consuming several glasses of wine. It was only as I was pulling into my driveway that I saw the blue lights of a police cruiser behind me. The shame and guilt of my behaviour has never left me. Two years ago I sought the help of Mark Cardy (a licensed paralegal with Aitken Robertson) to  help me apply for a pardon of my criminal record for impaired driving. Applying for a pardon is not for the faint of heart or those with little remorse or patience. Mark walked me through the process and handled every stage with such professionalism and drive. Even despite some health issues that sidelined him for several weeks, he persevered on my case from his hospital bed. Literally 14 months from our first phone conversation to today when I received notice from the Parole Board of my official pardon, Mark has been on my file. He never wavered even when I wanted to give up the quest to clear my record.

If you have made a mistake and want to correct it, Mark is the legal expert with heart to do it." -K.S.

"I was charged with over 80 and Impaired driving in Toronto for the first time. Me being a Truck Driver, you can imagine how scared i was. I did little research and came across the website for Aitken Robertson and liked what i saw so i gave them a call. After my first conversation with Justin Marchand, he made me understand everything about my case and gave me so much hope plus with the payment options they offered me, it was a no brainer picking them for my case. Throughout my whole process Justin and Lisa were understanding of my situation and made my process so much comfortable for me. After my not guilty verdict there is no way i wouldn't recommend them for anyone in need of a good lawyer or firm. They fight for their clients!" -K.M.

"I was faced with several criminal charges, and dealing with substance abuse issues for which I am receiving treatment.  During this time I had to be off work.  Aitken Robertson have always been very understanding and supportive during this very difficult time and I felt very comfortable speaking to all members of the team.  I was allowed to reduce my payments whilst in treatment.  All the staff have always treated me with respect and dignity and I would recommend the services of Richard Aitken and his team to anyone facing criminal charges." -J.H.

"I reached out to Aitken Robertson - fight the charges - when I was charged with fraud under $5,000.  I was introduced to my lawyer, Justin Marchand.  With Justin's help, I was capable of paying the full restitution fee in a span of six months. To top it all off, no criminal charge!  I was very nervous about the upcoming trial but Justin made me feel comfortable and confident that the results will end well.  He was very understanding and made sure I understood the procedures. Lisa Thomson was amazing help, answering questions as soon as she can and was very accommodating when I was incapable of paying the fees on time.  They are an amazing resource if any of my friends or family need help. I seriously cannot thank both of them enough. " -P.G.

"It's never a nice feeling having to choose a criminal defence lawyer, but a quick google search will show the team at Aitken and Robertson to have the highest ratings in the Oshawa area.

I was able to meet directly with Richard himself within a week of my first call to the office. He was professional and was able to alleviate many worries I had about my charges. Richard set some realistic goals based on previous cases he worked. Over the next couple weeks, Richard and his team reached a deal beyond my initial expectation.

My matter was ended within 6 weeks of receiving the charges. I only had to make one appearance and the team took care of the rest. I'd like to give a special thanks to Richard, Madeline, and the team of paralegals that worked on my case. They achieved the best possible outcome and I cannot thank them enough.

I truly hope I don't find myself needing his services again, but I'd 100% recommend these guys to anyone who finds themselves in a difficult legal situation.

Kind regards" - C.G.

"After being caught sinning on the highway of heroes, I called Mark Cardy and he clearly explained all the options available in such situations. I know speeding tickets are tough ones to fight but to my surprise and relief Mark got me a great settlement. I am very happy with the work he did and I recommend calling him if you've received a ticket." -A.K.

"I called Mark Cardy and Aitken Robertson after I was pulled over for speeding and charged with stunt driving. A charge like this would have ruined my ability to drive and made my life and career much more complicated. With the efficient and effective help of Mark Cardy and his team, they were able to get my ticket reduced to 129 over which was even better than I expected. In the end I am extremely happy with my decision to call Mark and even happier with the results he and his team were able to achieve." -M.C.

"Driving on 401 East, I was stopped at the same time as another vehicle for speeding at 147 km/h near Tyendinaga. It was a hefty fine of $347.00 and 4 points. Since I wanted to contest the ticket I researched online and found After leaving my information on the website, I received a prompt return call from Mark Cardy, a Licensed Paralegal at Aitken Robertson. We went over the details of the events and Offence Notice. He informed me clearly of the options I had and what the outcomes could be depending of which way we decided to go. We went ahead as we had spotted a small detail wrong on the Offence Notice. Next day I received a follow-up message and a week or so later, I was cleared of all and any charges with no conviction registered, no fine, no points lost. I am very pleased with the service and outcome, the fees were not only fair but cheaper than the ticket itself. I would highly recommend Aitken Robertson and Mark Cardy to anyone fighting a similar charge. Thank you"

"When I met Mark Cardy a few months ago, I needed someone to compose a letter to the Parole Board of Canada requesting that they reconsider revoking my current Pardon.  Mr. Cardy had mentioned that he had a very high success rate, and met with me to ask questions in line with what the Parole Board was looking for in my response submission after they indicated they may be in a position to revoke my current pardon.
Well, I received a letter from them noting that they "will not be revoking" my Pardon. I am so happy to be part of his success rate! Many thanks for all of your help on this matter - hopefully I will now be able to move forward with this baggage off of my shoulders!" J.L.

"I  was charged with over 80 in December last year in Ajax. I hired Richard Aitken in Aitken Robertson. I was very relieved when I got careless. The price is very reasonable for the charge. The firm's staff is very pleasant, friendly and always available for questions I had. When I was charged I was very stressed. Richard Aitken put my mind at ease and addressed the situation in clear, and professional manner." K.U.

"I work as a brick layer and my truck is important to my line of work.  I was charged with operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg [of alcohol] in 2016. I decided to get a lawyer to help save my licence and my friend Coreen, who is a paralegal, recommended Richard Aitken to help my case.  I was hoping to get it reduced to a careless but it was not offered.  Because of that, I decided to take it to trial.  At trial, the judge found that the police didn’t give me my breath demand as soon as they could or my right to counsel. As well, the police did not properly assist me in calling a lawyer from the station.  Because my rights were breached, the judge would not consider my breath reading so I won my case. Even though Mr. Aitken’s office was four hours away, he did not charge me for mileage or travel time.  He offered monthly payment plans which helped me out a lot. Mr. Aitken was very professional and always explained the outcome and procedure with me throughout the case." -C.N.

"I was charged with impaired boating. If I lost, Crown was asking for 4 months in jail and a lifetime driving ban. My lawyer Richard Aitken was able to convince the Crown in a plea bargain to instead accept careless boating for no jail, a $350 fine, and a donation by me. I don't even think my insurance will go up. The fees are fair. The lawyer did everything for me in relation to Court stuff which made easy to me. I am so happy with the result. It will not affect my commuting to work, looking after family etc." -L.V.

"I was charged with blood alcohol over 0.8 in Oshawa, Ontario. It is the first that I have been charged or arrested. After doing a lot on-line research I found Aitken Robertson. "I was charged with over 80 in Pickering, Ontario and the matter was brought up in Oshawa Court. “We all have that terrible moment - when you don't know where to turn or who to ask for help when you've been in a car accident. Its overwhelming and complicated in ways you can't plan for, and I felt at a distinct disadvantage. One phone call to Mark Cardy of Aiken Robertson Criminal Lawyers gave me instant access to a professional, experienced and trustworthy legal advocate who handled my case from the moment I received my traffic citation to the completion of my legal proceedings in provincial court.

His exemplary work gave me peace of mind in an otherwise very stressful time. It is without question his expertise and knowledge that gave me the confidence to pursue my matter in court and to mitigate my damages in the best manner possible.

“I am extremely impressed with the professionalism  of Mark Cardy of Aitken Robertson Criminal Lawyers and . This was my first time hiring legal help and the matter was resolved within weeks of my contacting Mr. Cardy.  It related to a by law charge of my dogs being a public nuisance and Mr. Cardy swiftly identified some key flaws in the prosecutors case which lead to my ticket being withdrawn. I couldn't have done it without Mr. Cardy’s help. Very pleased with the outcome and would not hesitate to enlist Mr. Cardy’s help in the future.” –S.J.

“In 2015, I was involved in an accident which the guilty party took-off. After the police officer wrongly charged me with Careless Driving, I was both angry and bewildered as I lost faith in the justice system. I knew that I needed professional help from a top-notch law firm specializing in traffic violations, particularly, quasi-criminal charges such as careless driving. After searching the internet for some time, I came to feel strongly that Aitken Robertson would best serve my needs. Their wesbite  professional and informative, but from a prospective client’s point-of-view it was still a leap-of-faith.

Mark Cardy, a paralegal with Aitken Robertson, put all my concerns to rest. His professionalism, enthusiasm, and extensive knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) eased my legal concerns. Just as important, Mark’s intimate knowledge of the court system and the way it operates is crucial to the outcome of any court case.

I was determined to fight my ticket before the courts, and Mark began preparing a comprehensive legal file to advocate my case. During the process, Mark’s sharp trained legal eyes found that the Crown Attorney’s case lacked proper evidence. Comprehending the legalese involve is beyond the average layperson but Mark certainly understood it and he exploited it to the max to my benefit. My case was withdrawn. I won – happy days!

Anyone fighting an HTA charge, particularly a serious one or even minor one, where the stakes of the outcome is critical, should definitely call Mark Cardy. His extensive knowledge of the HTA and his vast court experience is beyond reproach. In additional, Aitken Robertson is a law firm with professional lawyers on staff should your case require their input.

Don’t fight your tickets alone; get Mark Cardy and Aitken Robertson onto your winning team.” –P.L.

“If it wasn’t for Aitken Robertson Criminal Lawyers, and Mark Cardy, I would be looking at some pretty hefty fines and even jail time. I was being charged with unlawfully entering a national park, remaining in the park after close, speeding, careless driving, and flight from police. I was looking at possible jail time, 5 year licence suspension, as well as some pretty hefty fines. With the help of Aitken Robertson Criminal Lawyers they were able to get most of the charges dropped, getting no jail time, the 5 year suspension dropped to just 6 months, and only a fine of $2000. I appreciate everything the lawyers and paralegals at Aitken Robertson Criminal Lawyers have done.” –J.G.

“I got a speeding ticket at Sand Bank Beach. I got a ticket for going over in a 40 km zone. I met Mark Cardy and he was able to win the trial for me. He argued that there was insufficient evidence for the charges against me and was able to win the case and dismiss the charges under my name.

I really appreciate his efforts and the service was amazing. Thank you so much. I would recommend him to anyone in the Kingston area.”

“I was arrested at 6:30 PM on Sunday night (Mischief CCC430) and I was in Richards office at 2:00 PM the next day. Less than 24 hrs. I was a mess, absolutely petrified and had a very hard time trying to stay focused. Richard told me to go home and not to worry, “you aren’t a criminal and we’ll get the charges dropped.” He made me feel safe and secure. I had the costs and all the information I needed. They work in teams so you can always call and get information. Result was exactly what Richard said but LESS than the quoted price. When does that ever happen! Special thanks to Jay for all her patience and help. She is a great asset to the firm.” -C.M.

“After leaving a Christmas Party in Dec of 2014, I was pulled over and asked to provide a Breath Sample. I failed that Road Side Breath Sample, was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample at the station and spent a period of time in the cells. After being released, I had to make the necessary choice of selecting legal representation. After reviewing a number of firms, I opted to select Aitken Robertson because of their courteous staff and reputation.
I had the pleasure of having Edmund Chan as my defense lawyer. Edmund is a very well received and informed professional, with years of experience. I was facing a year without my license and having to install a breathalyzer in my vehicle thereafter. This would have ruined my career, increase my stress levels and overall, monetarily.
Edmund decided we use the collaboration of the breath sampling machine as our main defense due to it not being collaborated properly. The result of the matter was that the Crown dismissed the charges due to Edmund’s devastating and jarring questioning.
I couldn’t be happier with the result and have since felt the weight of the world release. I would urge anyone in the precarious circumstances to let Aitken Robertson defend you and your livelihood.
Everyone at Aitken Robertson proved their worth at every engagement. Kind, understanding and respectful. Ultimately, they were trying their best to accomplish a satisfied client. Even at the beginning, they supplied me with their book, which highlighted a lot of the feelings and emotions I was encountering, in turn defusing a lot of those feelings.Although you may not win, you certainly have a very chance with Aitken Robertson."
Regards, C.C.

The topnotch individuals at Aiken Robertson were definitely essential to the absolutely satisfying outcome of my situation and peace of mind. Make the call – I cannot recommend their services highly enough!” – W.

“Never give up hope. At trial I was convicted of Over 80. I lost my licence for 3 years, received a jail sentence, and would have been ordered to install a breath machine for 3 years after my suspension ended. Mr. Edwin Boeve got me out of jail right away and successfully appealed the verdict. I kept my licence, no more jail and no breath machine. A job well done. Thank you Aitken Robertson.”– G.C.

“The knowledge and preparedness that Aitken Robertson demonstrated throughout the handling of my legal proceedings were exceptional. They matched my highest expectations by reaching an outcome that undeniably reflected a good understanding of the legal system. Aitken Robertson handled my case in a professional manner and provided realistic expectations that allowed me to make informed decisions. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of legal services.” – G.M.

“D. Edwin Boeve and the Aitken Robertson team made my terrible situation a very pleasant one in the end. We won our case despite apparently very slim chances. I spent many worrisome days and sleepless nights with my Over 80 mgs charge on my mind. The final verdict would have ruined my family’s life as well as mine if I had not fought it. Facing a criminal record, no licence for a year and the thousands of dollars in insurance costs is not an option with the Aitken Robertson team. Do yourself and your loved ones a favour, get Aitken Robertson to fight for you!” – K.M.

“Richard Aitken represented me in an impaired driving matter in a most professional manner. I would recommend his experience and services without reservation. His guidance and efforts helped me get an acquittal against overwhelming adversities.” – B.O.

“I will never be able to thank the Aitken Robertson firm enough. To them, practising law isn’t simply which case is going to trial, but truly about the lives that their incredible work will affect. We were faced with multiple charges, but the team at Aitken Robertson, not only held our hands the whole way through, but won on all accounts! Truly a law firm for today’s client.” -E.D.

“I was facing four separate charges: Over 80mgs, Impaired, Dangerous Driving, and Failure to Remain. As a result of the charges I lost my job. Furthermore, I faced at least a year suspension from driving, fines and a criminal record, forever hindering my employment opportunities. However, with the professional guidance and expertise from Aitken Robertson I was found not guilty on all charges! I have since gotten a better job and never have to worry about being discriminated against when applying for another job! Without the help of Aitken Robertson I would have never been able to get back to where I am today. I would highly recommend this team of professionals to anyone facing similar issues.” -J.C.

“I was facing an Over 80 charge. They said I was twice the legal limit. I had a prior impaired conviction 5 or 6 years ago. My career and lifestyle were on the line. After meeting with three other lawyers, I was referred to Richard. I received immediate respect, hope and confidence. Richard and his team seemed to have the Crown on their heels from the outset. I must say I was maybe not a perfect client either. I came away from this experience with a lesson learned and a perfect driving record. All charges dropped.” -I.H.

“On November 16th, 2010 I made a call to Richard Aitken’s office, not knowing what I was up against for a charge that I truly did not understand.

It was the best call I have ever made! The prompt service was absolutely amazing in regards to my questions, as well the availability to help me in a prompt matter. Once I made the call they were right there the same day to give me advice as to what was best. They were acting on my behalf the very next day in court for a bail hearing.

Being that it has never happened to me before, I had many questions in regards to my charges. I was very confused, upset to say the least, anxious to find all the answers to all of my questions.

They re-assured me that they would do their very best. There was a lot of information needed from me, many different appointments in order for them to understand my defence.

I had many different court appearances to attend and they always made sure I was not facing any of them alone.

When it is your first time contacting a lawyer for charges against you, you become extremely anxious. I had to put all my trust into them in which was extremely hard since it was my first time facing this. Throughout the months awaiting trial, Richard had advised me that an articling student would be helping with the file. Again I became extremely nervous wondering how things would end. My case was then handed to Richard along side. As we awaited trial for almost a year, this team worked hard to prove my innocence, until almost the very last week before trial. It was then that all of my anxiety came out in tears as they called me in to the office to announce that all my charges had been dropped. This case was a very tricky case in many senses. Leaving the matter in their hands left me with the most satisfaction, appreciation and trust in this firm. They all have lots of patience including their secretaries. Any questions you may have, no worries, they will answer them the best they can. Believe me if anyone has tested them on questions it would have to be me. They are understanding about payments, as long as you make an effort to pay every month. They are here to help you; that is what they do. That being said, they do need to be paid for their services which are very well priced.

If anyone reading this is unsure what law firm to use when looking for a team to represent them, I highly recommend you put your trust into this firm. They have touched my life in more ways than I could ever put in words.

All the best. You won’t regret taking my advice!!” -M.G.

I believe that my experience with Aitken Robertson was a very good one. I was in a terrible fix and they listened to my story and made me feel a lot less stressed. I appeared for fingerprints once and never had to miss time at work until I had to go for my plea. They let me pay them monthly, as opposed to upfront, so that I could pay my incurred fine. They gave me scenarios to consider and let me make my own decision. I thank them for much need and sound, reasonable, stress relieving advice. Would I choose them to help me in the future? Without any hesitation or apprehension whatsoever.” -G.S.

“My name is C. I’m a 40 year old man with a full time career, a loving wife and 3 wonderful children. In the spring of 2011, my life was turned upside down when I was criminally charged with “Failure to Provide a Breath Sample”. Unbenouned to me at the time, the charge comes with very heavy implications, the same as if one were charged with DUI or impaired.
All of a sudden my life was turned inside out, I was completely devastated. The implications could have cost me thousands in fines, thousands in insurance, license suspensions and possibly my career as a professional ******* ******* with the federal government. I was completely lost and didn’t know where to turn.

After a few calls, a good friend recommended me to Richard Aitken. After speaking with Mr Aitken, I was re-assured that there were heavy implications to the charge, but he wasted no time in reviewing my case and working diligently on our defense. Mr Aitken’s review of the case and questioning to the prosecution produced an excellent outcome, whereas the criminal charge was dropped by the Crown.

I can’t put into words how greatful I am to Mr Aitken. The amount of stress I suffered during this ordeal was like none other I’ve experienced. A special thanks to all the folks at Aitken Robertson for their excellent advice, their time, their correspondence and their diligent teamwork.

These folks are the paradigm of professionalism and I would highly recommend them to anyone whom finds themselves in an undersireable position such as I was.

Thank You Richard!!
And thanks to ALL the folks at Aitken Robertson!!

“On August 19, 2014, I was charged with possession of an illegal drug in the City of Whitby, Ontario. I contact Mr. Aitken right away regarding the matter. We discussed the matter over the phone, where he presented me with my options. I told him what I wanted, which he said was possible. The Crown was looking for a guilty plea with a fine but Mr. Aitken was able to have the fines dropped to nothing and my case was then withdrawn by the Crown. I do find that Mr. Aitken’s rates were fair for the matter that was presented. I would refer this law firm anytime.” – C.T.

“On New Years Eve 2012 , I was out celebrating with friends. One thing led to another I was charged with Care and Control and Impaired Driving. I hired Richard Aitken as my lawyer which turned out to be the best decision I ever made. He was never off the mark and I would recommend him to anyone needing a lawyer. I was acquitted at trial and could continue on with my driving career. Then again in 2014 I found myself needing legal help again so I contacted Aitken Robertson. Richard handled my charge of Assault causing Bodily Harm. He struck a deal with the Crown resulting in an outcome of no criminal record.” – P.B.

“Professional, competent and successful! I was delighted with the outcome of my case. I would recommend Aitken Robertson and Mark Cardy to anyone charged with a traffic offence in Ontario.” – P.C.

“I was charged with assault in Uxbridge, Ontario and I hired Mr. Richard Aitken as my lawyer. My representation was superior in a professional manner, strongly based on company integrity, with open means of communication which extended to all individuals employed by Aitken Robertson. The time-frame and quoted priced was in line with the proposed amount.

The result, by contrast, exceeded my dreams. I received 12 months probation. This result has re-established my faith in the Justice System. In all fairness, I knew my lawyer was very professional but I was unsure of how the results would turn out.

The Crown was seeking a severe penalty, which included an 18 month suspension and a criminal record. In the end, I was honest and honesty prevailed – right is right. Thanks for your assistance!” -B.F.

“I was charged in Port Perry, Ontario with Impaired Driving and Over 80 mg in June of 2014. Mr. Richard Aitken was the lawyer that dealt with my case. Due to my prior three DUI convictions, the Crown was seeking a prison term somewhere in the range of 60 days. Richard was able to get it reduced down to house arrest, a 5-year driving suspension and 3 years probation. Richard was knowledgeable and did not leave any of my questions unanswered or leave me confused. Aitken Robertson was very professional and fairly expedited and I would recommend them to anyone.” -A.O.

“Recently, while travelling on Hwy 401 near Whitby, I was charged with driving while suspended. This was very traumatic. I was very unsure of my future. The arresting officer suggested that jail time was a very good possibility. Through investigations, I was directed to Aitken Robertson Criminal Lawyers. I met with Mr. Aitken and from our first meeting, he guided me through the entire process. He was helpful, straightforward and continued to remind me of my options. It was suggested the I plead guilty.

The entire Aitken Robertson Team always treated me with professional courtesy. Mr. Aitken, confirmed that jail time would be requested from the Crown and I did plead guilty. During sentencing, the crown did ask for jail time and a further suspension but Mr. Aitken asked for a one year driving suspension and a fine. Ultimately, Her Honour agreed.

I am very thankful for the efforts put into my case by this team. The fees are very reasonable and worth every penny.” -T.M.

“An unfortunate incident happened to me towards the end of 2013. I had a car accident that the police became aware of and filed some pretty heavy charges on me; DUI and failure to remain. The incident took place in Burlington, Ontario and it would have been career ending for me had I not received the assistance of Aitken Robertson.

The firm exceeded my expectations, not only in reaching a favorable outcome, but in the support and attention he offered me throughout. My lawyer was reachable, kind, and understanding throughout the entire process. I would definitely recommend  Aitken Robertson to anyone in a similar situation. Every bill was quoted accurately, before the work was done, and there were no unexpected charges.

The crown wanted to press criminal charges on me and take away my licence. Something that would have been debilitating to my career since I rely so heavily on my vehicle. At the end of the process, my final charge was reduced to failure to report; three demerit points and a $115 dollar fine. I was extremely happy with this outcome. The entire experience was traumatizing enough that I learned my lesson. I didn’t need to lose my licence and have a criminal record to learn from my mistake.

Aitken Robertson collectively saved my life as I know it. I haven’t had a single traffic infraction since. Benefit from their services if you too can learn from your mistakes without having your life ruined to do so. They are life savers.” -M.L.

“I was charged with impaired driving and over 80 in August 2014. Richard Aitken took on my case personally because I was facing these charges for a second time. Most concerning, I was facing a minimum 30 day jail penalty. Richard was able to avert the jail penalty, allowing me to keep my children, job and home. Although I continue to face all other penalties and very heavy financial/emotional burdens, amongst other difficulties, it could have been much worse but for Richard Aitken’s efforts and diligence with the Crown Attorney. I am very grateful.” -L.L.
