Richard is the firm’s articling student. His time with Aitken Robertson is primarily devoted between the firm’s GTA locations. Richard is also responsible for handling the firm’s intakes and consultations. Richard works alongside senior legal counsel to ensure that Aitken Robertson’s clients receive the highest level of advocacy and customer service possible. Richard is committed to continuing to develop his skills as a well-rounded criminal practitioner. Following his call to be Ontario Bar, he intends to practice in Criminal Law with a focus on Impaired Driving and Youth Criminal Justice Act matters.

In 2014, he obtained his undergraduate degree in History from York University. In his final year of studies at York, he was awarded the prestigious Joseph Woods Memorial Prize and served as Academic Advisor to his beloved Vanier College.

In June of 2017, Richard graduated from Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law, after having obtained his Juris Doctor. In law school, Richard began honing his skills as a practitioner. He spent his first summer of law school working in Hamilton, Ontario at the boutique Personal Injury firm of Harvey Katz and Associates. As his interests were in the Criminal Law realm, Richard left this firm to become Aitken Robertson’s Summer Student in May of 2016. Throughout his final year of legal studies Richard continued to advance his knowledge of Criminal Law by working for Aitken Robertson on an as needed basis. Richard’s legal education was further enhanced when he spent his final semester of law school as an advocate at the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic.

Richard is a fitness enthusiast, when not in the office, meeting with his clients, or in the court room you can likely find him in the gym. He has also become an avid rugby player, currently representing the Muddy York RFC. In his youth he played hockey and football competitively, and baseball and soccer recreationally. Richard enjoys following most of the major sports leagues in North America and many international sporting competitions. Although he maintains that the Tour De France is the most grueling of all sanctioned sporting events.

Richard also enjoys cooking and trying new cuisines, although he cannot recommend that you consume anything he creates. At university he acquired an appreciation for fine art. His favourite works are those of the Realists, sadly, this interest has not resulted in Richard acquiring any artistic ability. Reading is another hobby of his, he particularly enjoys works of historical non-fiction and biographies. In his down time, he can be found watching movies. War movies, period films, and documentaries are amongst his favorite genres. In his down time, he enjoys completing crossword puzzles.
