In December 2018, the government introduced Bill C-46 which brought about some changes to the DUI legislation, specifically with regards to the penalties for Over 80. Prior to that, your fine would have been based on your BAC. The minimum fine at that time was $1000, regardless of your BAC, however now, your BAC will dictate what your minimum fine is. So a blood alcohol content between 80 and 119 mg of alcohol in 100mL of blood will get you a minimum fine of $1000. You will get a minimum fine of $1500 if you are between 120 mg and 159 mg, and anything greater than 160 will get you a minimum fine of $2000.
