About Our Legal Fees

We understand that legal fees are an important consideration for our clients. With that in mind, the good news is that we offer flat fees for our immigration services. This means that you can focus on your case without the distraction of being charged by the hour by the lawyer working on your file. Being armed with the knowledge of your fees in advance of your case can help you decide whether or not you are comfortable moving forward.

The fees will depend on the type of application and work that your case requires. During our initial free 30-minute consultation, we offer you a legal fee quote. This will often be in the form of a range. Our firm also offers payment plans to accommodate our clients.  We answer all your questions and explain in detail what your fee will cover. Rest assured that we offer competitive rates. Give us a call to inquire more about the fees associated with our wide-range immigration services.

Why Choose Us For Immigration Needs

We completely understand that your immigration related matters are of utmost importance to you. For some, living in Canada makes all the difference in their lives, such as refugees seeking asylum. For others, moving to Canada can bring about a family reunion, the opportunity to earn a living and support a family or to get a Canadian education from a notable academic institution.

Given the various important reasons that people choose to come to Canada, we approach our cases with due diligence, hard work and compassion. From day one and up until we achieve results, we work with you by learning about your goals and informing you of:

  • our legal services,
  • your eligibility for an immigration program,
  • the immigration process,
  • what to expect,
  • the timelines,
  • the associated fees, and
  • the likelihood of success.

We also offer you legal advice as to the possibilities of permanent residence to Canada, as that is always an option that immigrants like to consider and be aware of.

We give each case the individual attention it requires. As immigration matters can be extremely complicated, our aim is to make the process as stress-free as possible for you. Our Approach to Your Immigration Case

Permanent Residence to Canada

At Aitken Robertson, we begin your case by assessing your goals and individual circumstances to determine which category of immigration is best for you. Our primary objective is to give you the best chance of a successful Canadian immigration application. Our website provides considerable information on the different immigration categories that a foreign national may qualify for. We discuss these options with you in detail to ensure that they meet your short and long-term goals. For example, if your desire is to enter Canada as soon as possible, then we offer you examples of how you can do so while you work towards gaining your permanent residency in Canada.

Temporary Residence to Canada

If you are looking to visit, work or study in Canada, we can help. Depending on your interests, we conduct an intake, gather relevant information and inform you of your eligibility to visit, work or study in Canada. You will learn what you will need to support a successful application for temporary residence to Canada. Our website has helpful information with respect to the immigration process for temporary residency.

Immigration Appeals

At Aitken Robertson, we also handle immigration appeals. An immigration appeal refers to challenging the decision made by Immigration Canada on your immigration case. This can result in a variation or a confirmation of the original decision in your case.

The Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) of the Immigration Refugee Board (IRB) hears appeals. An appeal to the IAD is likely to take between six months and two years. Once the appeal is heard, a decision is rendered within a month or more, depending on how busy the IAD is at the given time.

If you are of the opinion that your case was unfairly treated or decided, we can help you appeal the unfavourable decision. We review your letter and provide you with a frank legal opinion as to your best options going forward.

At Aitken Robertson, it’s simple: we put our clients first. We understand that embarking on the journey of seeking immigration to Canada can be an unnerving and overwhelming experience. You find yourself inundated with respect to, for example, what immigration category to apply under, how to properly fill out the forms, where to make the necessary payments and how to avoid making preventable mistakes that will have Immigration Canada returning your application only for you to start from scratch. With that in mind, we approach our clients’ cases with the utmost diligence, determination, sensitivity, consideration and thorough support. We appreciate that clients are concerned with being denied entry into Canada or facing other related challenges with their immigration application. On that note, our role is to ensure that our clients feel protected and more importantly, confident that we are relentlessly advocating on their behalf.

I practice immigration law in an effort to help people submit strong immigration applications, receive fair representation and have their voices heard (i.e.: in refugee cases). Contributing to access to justice has always been and continues to be a passion of mine. In fact, I am humbled to have earned an Access to Justice Award for my volunteering contributions to Pro Bono Law Alberta legal clinics. I worked closely with self-represented individuals and helped them navigate through what often felt like a foreign and intimidating court system. The act of simplifying the complex legal process and facilitating the understanding of one’s legal rights continues to be a rewarding experience.

Before working at Aitken Robertson, I ran a successful immigration business as an immigration consultant. I practiced exclusively in all areas of immigration law and have a strong understanding of the immigration process. Whether you are looking to travel, study, work or bring your entire family to Canada, I can assist you through the entire process, from start to finish. I work closely with you to identify your goals. Then, I provide you with a projected road map with respect to the best route to accomplish them. I consider factors such as time, efficiency, and maximizing results. I also help eligible refugees obtain permanent residence status in Canada. If you are looking to appeal an unfavourable immigration decision, we offer that service as well.

My patience, compassion and understanding allow me to work collaboratively and effectively with my clients. I appreciate the level of fear and confusion most people feel when confronted with the Canadian legal immigration system. Such concerns are even more alarming when a foreign national or permanent resident is facing the potential of deportation, or is in dire need of refugee protection. As such, I put my best foot forward to offer quality legal services. After all, I rely on the ‘word of mouth’ of my clients to reach others who are looking to immigrate to Canada.

Following the completion of articling at Aitken Robertson, I joined the team as an associate in June of 2018. I attended the University of Toronto for my undergraduate studies prior to obtaining my law degree (LL.B) from the University of Buckingham in the UK in 2015. During law school I routinely wrote for the Law Review, was the head of Advocacy, won several negotiations and mooting competitions as well as awards for model UN conference (International Criminal Tribunal) and represented my law school at the ICT in Hague, Netherlands. Prior to law school, I had a diverse range of work experience. I had spent several summers working in biomedical research, focusing on cardiovascular research at the University Health Network (Toronto). I had also worked with Metrolinx and the Ministry of Transport in various capacities prior to deciding to pursue law.

Before joining the Aitken Robertson team in criminal practice, I had worked in immigration law; mostly focusing on cross border business immigration and provincial nomination programs. Since joining the Aitken Robertson team, I have been practicing in all areas of criminal law with a focus on DUI defence. With the recent changes in legislation, a possible criminal conviction poses a greater risk to accused individuals who are permanent residents or foreign nationals. I believe our clients at Aitken Robertson benefit from the advantage of my unique combination of a background in immigration along with experience in criminal law.

In addition to criminal inadmissibility issues, I also offer services relating to permanent residence applications, refugee application process, immigration and refugee board hearings, etc. While typically handling matters in Durham Region I continue to represent clients throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
